Mision Surf Mexico

Mision Mexico – Mision Surf kids

March 2019
I joined the team at Mision Mexico this past weekend. They started 18 years ago as a childrens refuge that Pam and Alan Skuse, from Australia, started.

I live at Mision Surf that was built over the last 4,5 years to create a permanent home for learning to surf as well as creating a surf hotel to sustain the refuge financially. Smart ! This hotel is hosting its first yoga / surf retreat next month.

Spent the weekend with all the kids and staff and volunteers, who came over to learn english, swimming and surfing. They live at the original refuge in town and come out on weekends and special occasions to be at the ocean.

What I love most about what I’ve learned in two days is their focus – education !!! Not one child is left behind and each is supported to find their path and then monies are found to educate them to learn and grow on their chosen path. We are in the least developed area of Mexico and a whopping 77% of the population is under the poverty line. Therefore, education is not a priority to those struggling to find food. Pam and Alan have made one of the largest differences I can see for this whole state. Each child that grows up and transitions to a paying career touches many more and lessens the cycle of poverty.
